What is vaccination?

Vaccination means injecting vaccines in your body to build up immunity to (resistance against) pathogens(e.g. viruses) that can cause disease.

What is intramuscular injection? I heard it hurts more than usual shots.

Intramuscular injection is a shot goes into the muscles, under the subcutaneous fat. This injection should not be more painful compared with ordinary hypodermic injection, since the muscles are said to have fewer nerves for pain compared to the skin.

Is it really effective against Covid-19?

All Covid-19 vaccines used in Japan are highly effective in preventing symptoms of Covid-19 infections, and expected to prevent develop serious symptom.Please note that it takes a week or two after vaccination for you to get immunity,and the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing symptoms. Please continue with mask-wearing and other counter measures since you may get infected with Covid-19 even after vaccinations.

Is the vaccine really effective against new variants?

How effective the vaccines are against each of the variants is currently being confirmed, but small mutations of the virus don't mean the vaccines become ineffective.

What kinds of reactions would occur after vaccination?

answer
Typical reactions is the pain at the point of the injection, tiredness, headache, and the pain of muscles or joints. In very rare cases, acute allergic reactions known as anaphylaxis can occur.

What should I do if I have a fever after the shots?

answer
Fever is a common reaction a day or two after vaccination. Drink plenty of water, take medicine to relief fever or pain if necessary, and wait and see the health condition. If the fever continues for more than a couple of days or your condition get worse, contact hospitals for consultation.

In case of fever or pain after vaccination, is it OK to take medicine available at drugstores?

Over-the-counter medicine can be used, but please consult with your doctor or pharmacist in the case as follows;
-You are taking other medication.
-You had allergic reaction or asthma by medicine or something.
-Your symptoms are severe such as strong pain or high fever.
-Your symptoms are long-lasting.

What is "Moderna Arm"?

answer
There are several reports that some people who got the vaccine made by Moderna had redness or itchiness near the injection point around a week after the shots.
In case of itching, a salve or other medication that cools the site will alleviate the symptoms. If the symptoms are reactions caused by the vaccine, they will clear up in a few days.

I’m worried about anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction that can occur soon after medicines or foods has entered the body. The symptoms may include hives, stomach ache, vomiting, or hard to breath. The vaccination venue is equipped with the medicine to treat it in case it occurs.

Why could the side reaction of the second shot be stronger than the first one?

Since a certain amount of immunity has been built up from the first shot, an immune reaction can occur more readily after the second shot.

You will not get infected with Covid-19 by the vaccine. Also, vaccinated person will not receive the COVID-19 virus in his/her body by vaccination.Fore further information, please see here.

I heard that mRNA vaccines rewrites my DNA or that of my future children.

answer
After injection with an mRNA vaccine of Pfizer or Moderna, the mRNA in the vaccine will break down rapidly after the shots. They don't get incorporated in human DNA, don't stay long, and don't absorbed by sperms or eggs. For further information, please see here.

There is no scientific basis that the vaccine causes infertility. Nor is there evidence of an increase in miscarriages or difficulty to get pregnant due to vaccination. See here for more information.

"Death after vaccination” and "Death from vaccination” are different.
Some people died after vaccination, but it is not true that many people have died due to vaccination. In Japan, as of early October there is no case of death which have determined the vaccine was the cause.

The Covid-19 vaccines is used all over the world after necessary test (clinical trials). There are reliable data showing that the vaccines currently in use in Japan are safe and effective.

There is no microchip in the vaccine. Nor will vaccination let you manipulated by 5G communications or your body become magnetic.
